OXYGEN IN SKINCARE Oxygen has been used in skincare in many different forms over time. Applications have evolved from topicals like masks and moisturizers to inhalation methods and oxygen domes, all with the goal of getting the maximum amount of healthful oxygen into the skin in the most efficient manner. Step 1, Oxfoliation™, is all about oxygenation and exfoliation. Unlike other modalities, Glo2 Facial utilizes the body’s natural oxygenation process by triggering a biological signal for the blood to release oxygen into the surrounding tissue. How do we do this? The process that occurs between our patented OxyPods + Glo2 Facial Primer Gel is what holds the key. Once the OxyPod comes in contact with the gel, a chemical reaction occurs, and thousands of tiny CO2 bubbles begin forming on the surface of the skin. This increased exposure to CO2 is what sends a message to the blood cells to release oxygen, which also induces a skin flushing due to the increase in capillary blood flow, revitalizing the skin and improving a host of conditions.

The vibrating applicator can be adjusted for intensity of exfoliation, and the OxyPod itself will begin to break down into tiny granules, further enhancing the mechanical removal of dead skin cells. This combination of oxygen and exfoliation creates optimal conditions for the infusion of nutrients into the skin, which we achieve in the following steps 2 and 3 via LUX and Detox. YOUR SKIN’S PROTECTIVE LAYER Skin is the largest organ of the body. It has several important functions including protection from the outside world, sensation (being able to recognize pain and pressure), temperature regulation, excretion, and more. The outermost layer of the skin is called the stratum corneum. It’s typically 1-20 microns thick (for reference, one hair is 50-70 microns thick), so not very thick at all! Despite that, it’s comprised of a matrix of dead skin cells (keratinocytes), which are held together by a lipid bilayer that acts as an intercellular glue. The result is a nearly impermeable layer, intended to keep moisture in and harmful agents out. The skin is also comprised of the ECM, or extracellular matrix. This matrix contains hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin – the building blocks of healthy skin, which lead to a firm, plump, and smooth complexion. As early as age 30, natural hyaluronic acid begins a steady decline and eventually disappears from the skin entirely. Ultrasound infusion (aka sonophoresis) boosts the effects of skincare by opening pathways within the skin.
BENEFITS OF LUX In Step 2 of a Glo2 Facial treatment, LUX, an ultrasound handpiece is used. The ultrasound is a low-frequency, 1 MHz pressure wave, which oscillates back and forth, creating a gentle vibration and a warm, soothing sensation. These “soft” ultrasonic waves temporarily disrupt the protective lipid bilayer, creating space for more and larger molecules to pass through. Due to this increase in permeability, Glo2 Facial serums are able to reach a depth in the skin where they are more readily absorbed and utilized, resulting in better efficacy
